1. Dirty Three Wines

📍 64 Cashin St, Inverloch

Dirty Three Wines are a small winery, run by husband and wife team Lisa Sartori and Marcus Satchell. Their homeland is Gippsland, where they grow and make Pinot Noir from our three distinct “dirts”. Their winery is in the heart of South Gippsland, Victoria somewhere along the coast between the Penguins and the Prom.

“We make with soul, that sing of the dirt in which they’re grown. The path we follow is quite simple… grow fantastic fruit and pick it just at the right moment. Doing this enables us to use as little artificial adjustments in the winery as possible. We make wines with purity, balance and harmony.”

2. Harman Wines

📍 612 Korumburra-Inverloch Rd, Wattle Bank 

Harman Wines is a family owned and run vineyard and winery in Wattle Bank, only a few minutes drive from Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Kongwak. David and Nicole purchased the 10 Acre property in 2004 and soon after the dream and idea of owning and developing a vineyard and winery became not just a possibility but a reality. Their first vines were planted in 2006 and further plantings in 2011, 2013 and 2016.

3. Bass River Winery

📍 1835 Dalyston-Glen Forbes Rd, Glen Forbes 

Bass River is a pioneering winery and vineyard in South Gippsland – that focuses on crafting wines celebrating the region’s unique biodiversity.

The vignerons, the Butera Family, produce small quantities of premium wine using fruit grown only from their estate vineyard. With an emphasis on expressing terroir and sustainable viticulture principles, they create handcrafted and distinctive wines that speak of the Gippsland region.

Their land is bordered by the Bass River and the southern end of the Strzelecki Ranges. The location of the vineyards planted is perfect for experiencing cool conditions from the nearby maritime elements. The Butera family has nurtured the land since 1983.

Bass Rivier wines are carefully monitored to determine when to intervene and when to let the wine carry on naturally. Their team takes pride in an ability to work cohesively with every aspect of the wine’s development, to create the best wines possible from our patch of earth – the proof of which is in your glass.

4. Lucinda Estate Winery

📍 108 Parr St, Leongatha

Lunda Estate are a small family run Vineyard and Winery in Gippsland. Located on the outskirts of Leongatha the husband wife team live on site where all their wine is made and bottled.

Planted on the outskirts of Leongatha overlooking Knox’s Hill – a distinctive old volcano, the vineyard is planted on red volcanic soil (Ferrosols). The soils play an important role in the quality and characteristics of fruit grown. The red volcanic soil is very fertile and high in organic matter.

The South Gippsland  Climate is cool and affords to a long ripening period, ideal for the development of complex flavorsome Pinot Noir. High rainfall and rich red volcanic soils add to the complexity and unique flavours of Lucinda Estate wines.      

5. The Gurdies Winery

📍 215 Gurdies-st Helier Rd, The Gurdies

In 2012, Wendy Heaney and Bruce Preston moved to The Gurdies buying a property next to the family farm. The property came with a little over an acre of diseased grape vines. Ignoring advice from several wine makers in the area to bulldoze the vines and start again, Bruce rolled up his sleeves and took on the challenge to turn these vines around and make a go of it.

With the help and advice from neighbour Dick Wettenhall from The Gurdies Winery, the vines started to improve and in 2015 Heaston Estate was established. That same year, one of our black Angus cows gave birth to twins. Two heifers, one black and one red. In a herd of black cattle, the little red one named Ginge, stood out in the paddock and in our hearts. ‘The cow on our label is a tribute to Ginge.’

6. Purple Hen Winery

📍 96 Mcfees Rd, Rhyll

Purple Hen began in 2001 when Rick Lacey and Maira Vitols purchased the property – 32 hectares of prime grazing land. Planting of vines began in January 2002 with the first vintage in 2004. An on-site winery was established in 2005 and the Cellar Door opened at Easter 2006.

In the ensuing years the team have expanded their vineyard to its current 11 hecatres and established an enviable record for producing elegant and strongly varietal wines – winning over 150 Medals and 30 Trophies at wine shows in Australia.

7. Phillip Island Winery

📍 414 Berrys Beach Rd, Ventnor 

Set on the south coast of Phillip Island, this inviting property is open 5 days a week for lunches and afternoon grazing options using the best local produce.

The grounds are stunning yet simple, offering expansive lawns, rolling rural views and glimpses of the glittering turquoise water of Bass Straight. The cellar door offers wine-tasting and retail wine and cider sales. The venue offers weekend live music, fun workshops and Premium wine and dining experiences. Guests can wander through “The Yards” where an on-site floral stylist and quality gift shop offers an opportunity to take home a souvenir.

The winery regularly hosts weddings and events plus premium evening wine dinners, and the new owners plan to extend the vineyard and build a purpose-built event space for future bookings.

8. Waratah Hills Vineyard

📍 20 Cottmans Rd, Fish Creek 

Waratah Hills is a small, family run vineyard, situated at the gateway to Victoria’s famed Wilson’s Promontory, the southernmost tip of the Australian mainland.

Vines, first established in the mid 90’s, are tightly planted, trellising style, reminiscent of Burgundy. The vineyard focuses on chardonnay and pinot noir. South Gipplsland’s cool, maritime climate, is widely acknowledged as one of the best pinot noir producing areas in Australia.
